June 9th
Today we went to Socioni to the Bible Institute. There we taught a class of about 6 ladies how to color the curriculum lessons for the children. Coloring isn't a big part of schooling in Kenya- so it takes some practice. Also, a lot of the older ladies haven't had much schooling if any at all. They did a good job coloring. We were there for about an hour and a half teaching them. I gave my Swahili testimony... telling them where I am from, my name, why we are there and simple things like that. They liked that very much.
In the afternoon we cooked 'green stuff' with Helen. Its actually called Sukuma wiki, which means "to push the week along". Why its called that, I have no idea. It is a pretty simple dish to make and it was a lot of fun. When we were cutting the onions our eyes were watering and Helen was laughing at us.
Today was a very simple day, but we got to see a lot of the culture between the Bible Institute and cooking.
